Welcome and Mission

Students OHIO

Welcome

At the American Language Program at The Ohio State University, we want to help you prepare for your future university studies or for the use of English in your professional life.

Our classes are divided into three levels: Foundations, Intermediate, and Capstone. Our class sizes are small enough that you can get to know your teachers and classmates well, and receive the individual attention that you need to make excellent progress toward your language goals.

Our teachers are experienced in the teaching of English as a Second Language (ESL), have lived or traveled overseas, and are very familiar with the US university system. They are ready and willing to guide you in your language learning and cultural adjustment.

In addition to our intensive classroom activities, we will enrich your experience with field trips and other activities to explore our beautiful campus, city and surrounding area.

We look forward to welcoming you here in Columbus, Ohio!

Mission

Since our founding in 1983, ALP has always put meeting our students’ needs at the center of our mission. As a university-based program, we focus on helping our students attain a high level of English proficiency for academic and professional purposes. Equally important is providing our students with the support that they need to navigate the culture of an American environment, whether their goals include study on an American university campus, or using their English to function well in their job situations.
