A post-admission program for international students and GTAs
The Spoken English Program (SEP) helps English learners improve their speaking and listening ability for effective communication in classes and other academic settings.
Ohio State established our program in 1986 in response to Ohio’s legal requirement to ensure satisfactory English proficiency of Graduate Teaching Associates (GTAs). We assess the oral language skills of prospective GTAs and certify them to teach.
For students needing additional language support, we provide instruction to enhance linguistic skills, cultural knowledge, and classroom communication strategies appropriate for North American academic classes. With the growing numbers of both undergraduate and graduate international students on our campus, we endeavor to meet their spoken English language learning needs for academic success.
