In addition to our traditional core programs (academic writing, spoken English, and intensive English), our International Special Programs unit creates innovative curriculum tailored to meet the needs of OSU departments. We also provide customized English classes for individuals, organizations, businesses, and partner institutions. Each customized program is designed around the language needs and goals of the participants. Classes are taught by highly qualified instructors of OSU’s Intercultural English Language Programs.
Below are descriptions of programs we have developed that are currently and were recently offered:
TraVerse English Language Training

Post Doctoral English Language Program
Postdoctoral students at Ohio State often wish to participate in opportunities to strengthen their English skills and enhance their communication with colleagues and supervisors. IELP has designed classes in presentation skills, pragmatics, and writing to support daily English demands and provide continuous improvement to those working at the university in this role.
Fulbright Programs
In collaboration with the Buckeye Language Education Resource Center, IELP has hosted programs sponsored by Fulbright. Most recently, we hosted the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Orientation and the Diversity and Inclusion in the Classroom Seminar with Fulbright Germany.
International Universities
IELP has tailored courses to the needs of students in short term courses for various universities in other countries. Most recently, we offered programs for students from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Zhejiang Normal University (ZJNU), and University of Tsukuba. The classes in these programs cover various topics such as academic writing, English pronunciation, presentation, discussion skills, and more. These classes also provide a forum in which students may learn about idiomatic English as it is spoken around them in the academic and community setting.
Language Excellence and Academic Preparedness (LEAP)
In collaboration with the Office of International Affairs, IELP offers the Language Excellence and Academic Preparedness (LEAP) Program. The goal of the pre-semester program is to help undergraduate students with improving their English language skills, understanding American culture, and connecting students with university resources.
