EDUTL 6912: Research Writing for International and Second Language Graduate Students
This course is designed for international and second language master’s and doctoral students seeking assistance in reaching their academic writing goals related to composing and writing stages of conference papers, manuscripts for publication, and grant applications, as well as other types of research writing which they may be actively pursuing. Coursework will focus on both analyzing academic writing within different discourse communities to further develop critical reading skills, genre knowledge, and rhetorical awareness and refining students’ abilities to handle the complex writing tasks required to confidently share their work as budding scholars in their respective fields. It will be aimed most directly at meeting the particular needs and interests of the students enrolled by providing individualized guidance on writing to meet genre conventions, specific submission requirements, and critical review expectations and extensive practice in editing for coherence, grammar, style, and effective source use. The course will consist of whole class sessions and one-on-one tutorial sessions to address individual student needs. Prerequisite: Completion of EDUTL 5902 or ESL placement test score of Q (80).
